Admissions

Admission to Nursery

Children can be admitted to Nursery (part time - half day) the beginning of the term after they become three providing that there is a place available. Please note, children can attend either the five morning sessions per week or the five afternoon sessions per week.

The maximum allowed per session is 26

Children are admitted purely by age.
Applications for Nursery places can be registered once your child is two years of age.

Application forms can be obtained from the Headteacher or the school office.

Admission to School

Under rules issued by the Government, parents have the right to apply for a place at any school in Barnsley or the surrounding district regardless of their address.

It is necessary to apply during the Autumn Term for children of statutory school age (born 1st September to 31st August) who will be eligible for primary school (Reception Class) starting in September.

Application forms are to be found in the Local Authority’s Handbook. These will be given to you by Nursery staff. If your child is not in a Nursery linked to a Local Authority School they will be posted out to you by the Education Department’s School Admission Team.

Information can also be found online at:

www.barnsley.gov.uk/admissions-primary-school-places.

Online applications should still be notified at the school office.

 Over Subscription

The Education Authority asks all schools to point out that attendance at our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in our school.

We have a limit of 30 places per year.

If the number of applications for places exceeds this then the following criteria are used to allocate places.

Children who have a statement of Special Educational Needs which name the school are required to be admitted.

1. Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children.
2. Children with brothers and/or sisters in school at the time of admission gain automatic places.
3. The distance between the child’s normal place of residence and the school - measured in a
straight line on a map - closest addresses gain places until the school is full.

When the school is full, applications may be refused. It should be stressed here that should your application be refused, you have the right of appeal via the Education Committee to an Independent Appeals Tribunal.

All decisions regarding the admission of children rest with the Local Authority (L.A.).
In addition to the generic arrangements for admissions, the L.A. will take into account the specific needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

If you are interested in applying for a place in our Year 1 - 6 classes - please contact our school office or Barnsley Admissions to see if we have places available.
