Our aims in computing are to familiarise children with all aspects of modern technology and to promote their confidence, increasing their capability to use computing in later life. We teach the computing skills as a specific subject and also integrate computing across the curriculum.
We teach the children how to use word publishing and processing facilities, how to store and retrieve information, how to use databases and spreadsheets and how to use logo and programmable toys e.g. roamers for control. We also place an emphasis on learning how a computer works and the importance of esafety.
We have one machine in each room linked to a central server. This enables children to access a common platform of software used throughout Barnsley. The children can also access the Internet and use the e-mail facility.
We also have a Computer Suite which houses 20 PC’s. We have 3 Digital Cameras, 2 Projectors and 40 iPads. Each classroom and the hall have an interactive whiteboard which children are encouraged to use under supervision. There is a wide variety of software and apps including pre-reading logic programs, reading skills, mathematical concept building programs, investigations, databases and facilities to produce computer generated art work and games. Children also receive access to Purple Mash software via the internet which can easily be accessed from home.
