Summer 2 2019

Wk 5-7

Week ending 19th July 2019

It's been a busy last week!

We have some new science ambassadors in Year 4. They have been on some training at another school, and here they are receiving their certificates and lab coats!

They will be running all sorts of science activities over the next year and they have already started by running some experiments on the playground at playtime to engage everyone in science. Well done!

We finally managed  to host our Reception and Key Stage 1 and our Key Stage 2 sports days this week. The events were hosted by 'Reds in the Community' and the children enjoyed the afternoons. Here are just a selection of the photographs from the events.

Year 4 held a very successful musical performance for parents this week. They played brilliantly! Well done Year 4!

The winners of all the sporting events in the Hoyland Partnership of schools this year, met for an evening of celebration this week and our Yr 3/4 Hockey, Year 3/4 boys and Yr 5/6 girls Cross Country winners were able to attend. We hope they enjoyed the evening.

Reds in the Community presented the children who took part in our sponsored penalty shoot out event with all their prizes this week. Thank you everyone for your support.

Our Year 6s have left us today - we are all very sad to see them leave. They have had a great year to finish off their primary education and ended everything with a superb leavers assembly this morning. It made us laugh and cry (a lot!)! We all wish them well for the future and hope they keep in touch.

We sadly said goodbye to Mrs Hirst, who left us after 12 years service cleaning and working at lunchtime. We are sad to see her leave but hope she enjoys her new job!

A reminder that we return on Tuesday 3rd September (Monday is an INSET day).

We hope you all have a lovely summer!

Week ending 12th July 2019

Last week, we were very fortunate to have Mr Tom Sorsby in school (Mrs Sorsby's son!) who is an international hockey play who plays for England! He taught skills to Yr 3, 4, 5 and 6 and also did a question and answer session with our Year 6. Thank you very much Tom - everyone thoroughly enjoyed it!

Last week we had the book fair in school and everyone who bought a book received a raffle ticket. The raffle tickets were drawn and the children below received £5 off a book of their choice!

Our children create amazing work in school and below are some photos of Year 5 children and their Design and Technology models. The children created moving toys for 'Fisher Price' to sell to their young customers. Great work Year 5!

Nursery enjoyed a trip to Cleethorpes this week as part of their learning on 'The Seaside' -they had a great day!

Thank you to all Key Stage 2 for their fantastic performances! So many parents commented on what a great show it was and I know the children worked so hard to put on such a good event. Huge thanks to all the staff, parents and PTFA for helping – performances like that wouldn’t happen without everyone putting in so much time and effort. Thank you.

Year 2 had a trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to link with their topic. The children found out lots of information about animals and their habitats and had a great day.
